Fulwood awarded LTA North Club of the Year

Fulwood LTC in Sheffield has capped a remarkable year by being named LTA Club of the Year for the North of England. The club beat off strong competition from a number of other county winners across the north to claim the prestigious award and will now go forward to the last five clubs for the National Club of the Year in June.
The last year has proved to be one of the most successful one in Fulwood’s history. The club picked up four titles in the Sheffield & District LTA league, including winning the first division mixed title for the first time in the clubs history. In addition to this a number of other teams also won promotion in the 2016 summer season.
Fulwood has also enjoyed significant membership growth over the last year, partly as a result of delivering successful LTA campaigns such as the Great British Tennis Weekend and Tennis for Kids, the LTA’s Davis Cup legacy programme. The club also has an extensive schools programme for local children.
In recognition of the progress made by the club, Fulwood were named Sheffield & District LTA Club of the Year last November, before picking up the Yorkshire LTA Club of the Year award in December..
Former LTA President Cathie Sabin visited Fulwood in October last year and praised the club for its commitment to providing a high quality experience and a range of opportunities for members and the local community.
Fulwood Head Coach and Club Director, Jonathan Wragg commented “We are absolutely delighted to be named as the LTA North Club of the Year. The award is a result of the huge amount of effort by a number of people at the club to provide a welcoming environment and great programme at Fulwood and we are really pleased that so many new members have chosen to join the club. To win three awards in the last six months is beyond all our expectations but makes all the hard work worthwhile”.
LTA Regional Tennis Participation Manager, Paul Sheard commented “It’s been a fantastic year for everyone at Fulwood and the regional club of the year award is testament to the great strides forward they have made. The club has great facilities and a fantastic tennis programme and I am sure will continue to go from strength to strength in the future.”
The club will now turn their attention to a facility development project that they hope to carry out later this year to further improve the facilities at the club.
